| Our exciting tour begins with a 3-night stay in Washington where we lodge at the Holiday Inn Capitol, just a block from the Air and Space Museum on the National Mall. Here we join our tour companions and tour director at a get-acquainted dinner.
| Our guided tour of the nation’s capital includes the restored Union Station, the Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Vietnam Memorials, the Kennedy Center, foreign embassies and much more. This afternoon our tourmobile guide narrates as we ride through Arlington Cemetery. Stops can be made at the Tomb of the Unknowns and the grave of John F. Kennedy.
| Our hotel is located by the Smithsonian Mall, near our country’s finest museums. Choose from the National Gallery of Art, Air & Space (see the original Wright Flyer), American History, Arts & Industry, Library of Congress, the National Geographic Society and many more. Scores of other attractions near the city center are just a short cab ride away.
| At Dulles airport we see the 523,000 sq. ft. Annex of the Air & Space Museum on opening day. On display are the space shuttle Enterprise, the Blackbird spy plane, the Enola Gay and many more famous aircraft. Then we drive to Mount Vernon to see George Washington’s restored estate on the Potomac. George slept here for 45 years. We continue to Williamsburg to lodge one night.
| We tour the royal Governor’s Palace and enjoy free time to explore Colonial Williamsburg. The Capitol Building, dozens of craft shops with costumed craftsmen, the Public Gaol and 100 other restored buildings show us what America was like before the Revolution. All are decked out in their Christmas finery. We drive to Virginia Beach to lodge two nights in oceanfront rooms.
| We drive south to the Outer Banks of North Carolina to Kitty Hawk. Here, at the site of the first flight, we participate in the extravagant celebration commemorating 100 years of human flight. Along with aviation legends like John Glenn and Neil Armstrong, we watch as the Wright Flyer replicates the first flight. Then 99 other aircraft from old to new fly overhead in turn. NASA and the Experimental Aircraft Association have exhibits on display. We return to our beachfront hotel in Virginia Beach.
| We drive back to Washington. Transportation is provided to National (Reagan), Dulles and Baltimore airports for flights home.
